Polar Playground: Cotton Candy Art in Huntington Beach

An Eeyore head made of cotton candy art from The Polar Playground in Orange County.

You don’t have to be a kid or have kids to enjoy The Polar Playground in Orange County. When the cotton candy artists handed me the crazy cotton candy creation I ordered, Eeyore, I lit up like a five-year-old.

I’m a huge Winnie-the-Pooh fan.

Here is all you need to know about visiting the Polar Playground.

Getting to The Polar Playground

Polar Playground is located in the standard SoCal strip mall off Beach Boulevard on the way toward the central part of Huntington Beach. There was plenty of parking.

We went on a Sunday around 2:00 p.m., and there was barely a line. We got lucky, perhaps. According to other reviews, there is usually a wait.

We checked out the menu of cotton candy animals and ordered one immediately after we decided, no one was in line except us but the store was crowded with others waiting for their cotton candy art to be completed.

I choose Eeyore. He is adorable, and yummy.

Watching the artists behind the counter spin one fun cotton candy creation after another is part of the fun.

My partner and I spent the day walking along the beach, having lunch at Bear Flag Fish Co. (amazing tacos), and then stopping for cotton candy art for dessert on the way out of Huntington Beach.

It was a perfect SoCal day trip.

The store is bright with plenty of seating.

They also have ice cream for those who don’t want a cotton candy creation. Everyone was in a good mood waiting for their crazy cotton candy animals, perhaps anticipating the sugar rush that would surely come.

There are dozens of cotton candy animals to choose from. We first picked Winnie-the-Pooh, but he was a bit simple, so we landed on Eeyore, a more complicated design, and watched the whole process unfold.

The options for the cotton candy creations change during the week.

The artist will call you up to the counter when your design is about to be created so you can film and take photos of it if you want to.

My partner and I haven’t had cotton candy in a long time, and I don’t remember it being as good as The Polar Playground’s. It’s light and tasty.

We didn’t think we would eat much of it, other than a taste, so we asked for a big plastic bag from the artists.

But we couldn’t stop eating it as we drove back to Los Angeles. It was delicious and goes fast; the cotton candy melts quickly in your mouth. Eeyore’s eyes were made of delicious chocolate cookies.

This was a fun stop, and I recommend it, especially if you have kids.

Please let me know what you think if you get a chance to go. We had a great time and felt like kids again. Plus, my partner LOVES sugar.
