LAMILL Coffee Silver Lake: A Local’s Guide to an Eastside Icon
If you spend enough time in Silver Lake, you eventually end up at LAMILL Coffee Silver Lake — intentionally or accidentally. It’s practically a rite of passage. You go once for a quick espresso, and suddenly you’re sitting in the soft morning light, journaling about your childhood and wondering why your life feels instantly more cinematic.
LAMILL is one of those quintessential Silver Lake aesthetic landmarks — clean lines, white walls, palm shadows, good lighting, beautiful people pretending not to people-watch, and espresso so smooth it should come with a warning label.
It’s not just a café; it’s a personality trait.
Where Is LAMILL Coffee Silver Lake?
LAMILL sits right near the east side of the Silver Lake Reservoir, making it one of the easiest pre- or post-walk stops in the neighborhood.
If you’re doing the Silver Lake Reservoir Loop, LAMILL is only about a quarter-mile away.
This might explain why 80% of people inside appear to be wearing athleisure.
📍1636 Silver Lake Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026
⏰ 7:00a-3p, every day
It’s in a quiet pocket of Silver Lake surrounded by tree-lined streets, the reservoir glow, and a cluster of boutiques a short walk away — Lake Boutique, Mush, and a handful of indie shops featured in my Silver Lake Shopping guide.
The LAMILL Experience (Otherwise Known as “A Very Silver Lake Morning”)

Walking into LAMILL feels like stepping into an Eastside mood board:
- white exterior
- enormous windows
- minimalist décor
- ambient music
- baristas who look like they have excellent skincare routines
- the scent of freshly ground beans mixed with eucalyptus from outside
The seating is both indoor and outdoor, and both options are excellent depending on the vibe you’re going for:
Indoor Seating
Airy, calm, bright, and stylish without trying too hard. This is where screenwriters go to “work” but mostly observe strangers for character studies.
It is one of the best spots for people watching.
Outdoor Seating
Charming, shaded, and blessedly not on a chaotic street. The outdoor area has the benefit of being so close to the reservoir you can practically hear dogs barking at the Silver Lake Dog Park, which is seconds away.
It’s not as glamorous as the inside — it was born of COVID — but there are plenty of seats, and it’s great if you are traveling with Fido.
What to Order at LAMILL Coffee Silver Lake
LAMILL is known for taking coffee seriously — but without the pretension you sometimes get at other specialty cafés.
Everything tastes thoughtful.
1. The Espresso
Smooth, bold, never bitter. If you usually doctor up your espresso, try this one straight.
I’m such an old-school LAMILL regular, I predate oat milk. Back then, I was sipping Americanos with half-and-half like it was the height of luxury—because at LAMILL, it is. No bitterness, ever.
2. The Oat Matcha Latte
If you’ve read my Silver Lake Coffee Shops guide, you know my feelings about matcha in this neighborhood: strong opinions, big emotions.
LAMILL’s oat matcha hits the sweet spot — creamy, balanced, not too grassy.
3. The 8oz Latte
If you want a latte that tastes like it went to private school and then grew up well-adjusted, get this.
4. Pastries + Light Eats

LAMILL doesn’t overwhelm the menu — which I love.
Quality over quantity.
The pastries are consistently excellent, the breakfast items solid, and the toasts beautifully composed.
If you want a full brunch, this isn’t the spot. They offer small bites, such as yogurt parfaits and chia seed pudding. If you want a lovely morning with great coffee and quiet energy, it’s perfect.

The Aesthetic Appeal (Why People Photograph This Place Constantly)
LAMILL is deeply photogenic — which is funny because it never feels like it’s trying to be.

You’ll see:
- sun flares through giant windows
- soft shadows from the surrounding palms
- terrazzo-like textures
- minimalist cups
- clean white walls
- wooden accents
- art on the walls like you’re in a museum
- comfy chairs
- marble tables
- soft lighting
- high ceilings
Everything works together to create the classic Silver Lake aesthetic — moody, calm, sunlit, and slightly aspirational.
It‘s no surprise LAMILL shows up in Pinterest boards and TikTok reels titled “Coziest LA Coffee Shops” or “Places That Feel Like a Main Character Moment.”
Parking at LAMILL (Good News: It’s Easy)
For once in Los Angeles, finding a parking spot doesn’t require divine intervention.
Because of its proximity to the reservoir, you can park:
1. LAMILL’s parking lot (Closest)
Sometimes, especially during the week, there are available spots. I never have trouble parking in Los Angeles. Occasionally, I have to go around the block. The Parking Gods look out for me.
2. Directly Along Silver Lake Blvd
Usually plenty of spots, especially in the morning.
3. On Armstrong Ave or Earl Street
A 1–2 minute walk.
Parking for LAMILL is dramatically easier than parking near Sunset Junction (home of Intelligentsia Coffee Silver Lake and Dinosaur Coffee), so take the win.
Who Goes to LAMILL? (A Study in Silver Lake Stereotypes)
LAMILL attracts the full spectrum of Eastside characters:
- dog parents stopping by after the Silver Lake Dog Park
- screenwriters working on “something big”
- stylish moms with strollers worth more than most rents
- readers working through a Joan Didion phase
- locals grabbing espresso before vintage shopping
- people on first dates pretending they don’t stalk each other’s Instagram
It’s quieter and more refined than many Silver Lake cafés, which makes it a favorite for people who want to think, read, or simply sit in a beautiful space.
A lot of people just contemplating life.
LAMILL + The Silver Lake Reservoir Loop
If you want to live the full Silver Lake aesthetic, here’s the move:
- Park near the reservoir
- Grab an espresso at LAMILL
- Walk the Silver Lake Reservoir Loop (2.2 miles)
- End at the meadow and contemplate buying a house you can’t afford
- Reward yourself with a pastry or matcha
This routine alone could increase your quality of life.
Shops and Spots Near LAMILL
If you’re making a morning of it, check out what’s nearby:
Lake Boutique
Lake Boutique is a few doors down from LAMILL, and once you see their window, you will stop in here, whether you’ve read about them here or not. The clothes will call to you. It’s your stylish stop for minimalist clothing and high-end, perfectly curated pieces. (My full guide: Lake Boutique Silver Lake). I wish it were my closet. It’s not cheap, but nothing in Silver Lake is, except the quiet hostility.
Mush
Mush is directly across from LAMILL. Tiny but full of incredible jewelry, art, and gifts. It houses vintage and new items. I recently bought the cutest handmade ornaments for my Christmas tree at Mush.
Clover
Clover is on the opposite side of the reservoir from LAMILL.
Clover has everything: gifts, bags, LA fashion, candles, cards, and a small men’s section. It’s a classic Silver Lake boutique — one of the first in Silver Lake, it’s practically an institution — bright, happy, perfect for gifting.
Itinerary: grab espresso at LAMILL, walk half the reservoir, head to Rowena, and check out Clover and Okhwa 👇🏻. Grab another espresso at Dinosaur Coffee – a local hangout. Then end by returning via the other side of the reservoir to your car near LAMILL.
Okhwa
A bit further from LAMILL, on the opposite side of the reservoir, is Okhwa on Rowena. Right next to Clover (see above). If you stroll up Rowena, you’ll run into Okhwa — neutral palettes, chic silhouettes, modern everything. High-quality and unique.
Vintage Stores
A short drive brings you to the vintage cluster I cover in Silver Lake Vintage Stores — which is a must if you’re shopping with intention.
Sunset Junction
The infamous Sunset Junction, the heartbeat of Silver Lake, home to Intelligentsia Coffee bar, is just around the corner from LAMILL. Best to drive, though, it’s not a pleasant walk, although I’ve done it many times.
The two spots are just 1.3 miles apart—five minutes if you drive, about 25 minutes if you feel like stretching your legs. Make it an adventure. Do the reservoir loop, wander through Silver Lake, and end up at Sunset Junction. That’s a quintessential LA day. Kind of fabulous and romantic.
Best Time to Visit LAMILL Coffee Silver Lake
Morning (7 AM–11 AM):
The most peaceful time — excellent light, locals walking their dogs, and the energy is soft.
Midday (12 PM–3 PM):
Busier, but still pleasant. A lot of “laptop people.”
Golden Hour (4 PM–6 PM):
Warm light flooding through the windows = pure aesthetic gold.
Weekends:
Expect the brunch crowd (not brunch food — brunch energy). Stylish couples, friend groups, and people who look like they’ve slept eight hours for the past ten years.
Is LAMILL Worth It?
Short answer: yes.
Long answer: yes, especially if you’re the kind of person who appreciates intentionally beautiful spaces, excellent coffee, and a calmer version of Silver Lake cool.
You don’t come here for drama or chaos. For that, go to Sunset Junction.
You come to LAMILL for:
- serenity
- quality
- light
- thoughtful people watching
- coffee that’s genuinely worth the drive
It’s an Eastside classic for a reason.
